Eftychios “Efty” Sifakis is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has also been an Associate Chair and the Director of Graduate Studies at the Computer Sciences Department. He joined the University of Wisconsin in 2011, having previously spent 3.5 years at UCLA as a postdoctoral researcher (in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science), after obtaining his CS PhD degree from Stanford (2007), and BSc degrees in Computer Sciences (2000) and Mathematics (2002) from the University of Crete, Greece. He has worked as a consultant and/or visiting scientist in a number of companies, including Intel, Walt Disney Animation, SimQuest Intl, Weta Digital, and Disney Research|Studios. He has supervised 15 graduate students & postdocs at the University of Wisconsin, and has been the lead or co-lead reseracher on 10 NSF/DoD funded projects since 2012. He received the NSF CAREER award in 2013, the UW-Madison Vilas Early Career award in 2018, and a UW-Madison Vilas Associate award in 2023. Efty has been a visiting research scientist with NVidia since September 2021.
