 [Chris Wyman](http://cwyman.org/) joined NVIDIA Research in 2012, and works from the Redmond, WA office in the real-time rendering research group. Before joining NVIDIA, he was an associate professor of computer science at the [University of Iowa](https://cs.uiowa.edu/). He has a Ph.D. in computer science from the [University of Utah](https://www.cs.utah.edu/) and a BS from the [University of Minnesota](https://cse.umn.edu/cs). Broadly, his research focuses on realistic, real-time rendering algorithms, especially related to lighting, global illumination, shadows, participating media, materials, and related issues.

Recent research explores uses of real-time ray tracing given very limited ray budgets. This led to powerful stochastic sampling techniques like [ReSTIR ](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/2020-07_Spatiotemporal-reservoir-resampling)and NVIDIA's [RTXDI SDK](https://developer.nvidia.com/rtxdi), which builds on insights gleaned from stochastic and deterministic filtering for [post-process reconstruction](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/2017-07_Spatiotemporal-Variance-Guided-Filtering%3A), [order-independent transparency](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/2016-06_Exploring-and-Expanding), [antialiasing](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/decoupled-coverage-anti-aliasing), [alpha-testing](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/hashed-alpha-testing), and [geometry](https://research.nvidia.com/publication/2018-08_Correlation-Aware-Semi-Analytic-Visibility). He has also spent time [evangelizing real-time ray tracing](http://cwyman.org/papers/rtg2019_Ch3_IntroductionToDirectXRaytracing.pdf), including in [SIGGRAPH courses](http://rtintro.realtimerendering.com/) and [DirectX Raytracing code tutorials](http://cwyman.org/code/dxrTutors/dxr_tutors.md.html).
