Maximilian Igl is a Senior Research Scientist at NVIDIA. He obtained his PhD from the University of Oxford where he focused on improving the generalisation of Reinforcement Learning policies. In an earlier chapter of his life, he also studied Physics and Economics, and modelled surface growth phenomena.

In his research, he is driven by the goal of discovering fundamental insights that have an immediate impact in the real world. This has led him to his current focus on accelerating the development of autonomous vehicles through enhancing the fidelity and diversity of data-driven simulations. And because rare and unusual scenarios are central to reliable autonomous driving, this means pushing the boundaries of what Machine Learning can achieve in modelling the world and human driving behaviour.
