Sascha Holl is a postdoctoral researcher in NVIDIA’s real-time graphics research group. He is currently completing his Ph.D. at Saarland University. His doctoral research was carried out in the Computer Graphics Department at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, where he was supervised by Gurprit Singh (PMTS at AMD) and Hans-Peter Seidel (Emeritus Director at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics).
He holds an M.Sc. in mathematics as well as two bachelor’s degrees, one in mathematics and one in computer science, from Paderborn University. Before university, he completed vocational training as a software developer with a focus on C++. He also spent two years as a rendering engineer in the games industry at Piranha Bytes GmbH, best known for the Gothic series of role-playing games.
Sascha’s research focuses on diffusion-based Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for physically based rendering and generative modeling. His broader research interests include real-time rendering and stochastic partial differential equations, in particular stochastic Navier–Stokes equations and their applications to fluid animation.
A central goal of his research is to explore how Markovian dynamics can be used to improve sampling efficiency and image quality in both offline and real-time rendering.
