Wojciech is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth and is visiting NVIDIA on sabbatical during the 2023-2024 academic year. His research in computer graphics is concerned with developing efficient rendering algorithms, with a particular emphasis on scenes containing participating media. His work in these areas has been incorporated into production rendering systems including Disney’s Hyperion, Pixar’s RenderMan, and the RADIANCE lighting simulation tool.
Wojciech got his Ph.D. from UC San Diego in 2008. During this time he worked as an intern at Adobe Research, and Industrial Light + Magic, where he helped develop the OpenEXR file format, which won a Technical Achievement Award and is now the standard file format for movie production. Prior to joining Dartmouth in 2015, Wojciech spent 6 years leading the rendering group at Disney Research Zürich, first as a Post-Doc, then Research Scientist, and Senior Research Scientist. He was also an adjunct lecturer at ETH Zürich during this time. In 2013, Wojciech received the Eurographics Young Researcher Award and in 2019 the NSF CAREER Award. His research has been used and credited in the making of several feature films, including Disney’s Tangled, Frozen, and Big Hero 6.
