William Sharpless

William Sharpless is a research intern with the Autonomous Vehicle Research Group at NVIDIA and a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering PhD candidate at UC San Diego. He is mentored by Prof. Sylvia Herbert in the Safety and Autonomous Systems research group. His thesis concentrates on extending rigorous safety analysis in optimal control and game theory to make safer algorithms for robotics and reinforcement learning. Prior to graduate school, Sharpless majored in applied mathematics and biology at UC Berkeley, working with Profs. Claire Tomlin, Adam Arkin, and Jay Keasling.
